New feature: Tax per product and line item

$
0
0

HostBill tax system gets even more power by enabling to set the tax rate per item, regardless of the localization.

Automated tax calculations in HostBill

As a comprehensive billing solution, HostBill offers a wide range of multiple and complex tax configuration options to comply with various legal requirements. Advanced tax features in HostBill allow you to set multiple tax levels and rates, add additional taxes for late invoices, calculate negative tax or control whether tax should be calculated before or after credit is applied. You can also choose if the tax should be inclusive, where the prices displayed are gross prices, or exclusive, with the prices that you set in system are net prices. HostBill enables to define multiple tax rules to comply with the country-specific tax rules. You can also easily save the time and hassle by using one of our presets – tax rules by country.

Tax per product and line item

Now we’re giving our tax system even more power by enabling to set the tax rate per item, regardless of the localization. This gives you plenty of new opportunities, especially when you have multiple products and services in your portfolio that need to have different tax rates applied, as it may be the case in some of the European Union countries.

Tax groups

In HostBill tax settings (General Settings -> Currency & Tax Settings -> Taxes) you can now create multiple tax groups (by default there is one, standard tax group). Once you create a group you can add and configure a new tax and assign it to the given group.

Tax groups

When configuring products, you can assign products to different tax group and in result impose a different tax to this product. This is especially useful to EU businesses, where there are different tax rates for different products, depending on product/service category etc.

Adding tax on invoice

When editing invoices you now have the opportunity to manually enter tax rate for each invoice item. HostBill will automatically calculate the tax and add it to the invoice.

Editing tax rate on the invoice

More on taxes you can read in HostBill documentation.

This week in HostBill we’re presenting new AD/LDAP client authentication module and new feature for orders and tickets review!

LDAP Client Authentication plugin

In HostBill we already have AD/LDAP Module that allows to authenticate staff member with Active Directory / Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. Now we’re happy to present similar module, this time created to authenticate clients. The AD/LDAP module for clients allows to connect with multiple AD/LDAP hosts to authenticate clients against them. Client profiles that are missing in HostBill can be created automatically using a template. AD/LDAP module also allows to create LDAP groups and select group per client. Client password can also be auto synchronized from LDAP in HostBill db upon login.

Order Review

HostBill allows to define order scenarios that control which steps must be taken after client submits new order. One of the steps is Final Manual review – it requires to review the order manually right after it was provisioned. Only marking this step as complete (if its activated in order scenario) will result in marking order as Active. If Final Admin review  step is active you can view orders that have not been reviewed yet in “Pending Review” order listing. The listing can be browsed only by admins with relevant ACL (Support: Review orders)

Order listing – pending review

Ticket review

When creating staff departments in HostBill you have the ability to define various settings and permissions per department. One of the options enables the supervisor to review tickets. If this option is on, once the ticket is closed it is marked as “pending review”. Admin with relevant permission (Support: Review tickets) can review the ticket, mark it as reviewed or re-open it or change its status.

Feature overview: DIY Automation

HostBill provides powerful automation of key areas of your business: billing, service provisioning and account management, that helps to increase productivity by reducing the time taken to perform repetitive tasks. And as increased productivity with less labour costs means increased profit, we can’t think of a better reason to automate your operations! But apart from standard automation features, with HostBill you can also create your own, custom automation rules for each client and per each product or service.

Flexible automation

HostBill automation is highly flexible and can be easily adapted to your needs and to each product, service and account individually. With tailor-made automation you can find solutions to your existing bottlenecks and instead of dealing with repetitive tasks, direct your efforts towards growing your business. What’s important – the automation is very intuitive and easily configurable from HostBill admin area.

Product automation

Each product in HostBill can have a set of dedicated automation rules. You can create rules for automatic service management: provisioning, suspensions and terminations (a certain number of days after the due date), upgrades and cancelation requests processing. In product automation settings, you can also decide if and when the renewal invoices should be generated, how to setup invoice due date, when to send payment reminder emails and whether or not to add late payment fee for overdue invoices. This way you can ensure the whole account management process runs smoothly without the need for staff intervention!

Product automation

Custom automation rules

For each product/service you can also create custom automation tasks to send custom emails, create tickets, change account details: billing cycle, recurring price, suspend or terminate account upon certain events. Each task can be scheduled to be executed automatically on certain events – you set number of days or hours before or after a certain event. The rules can apply to all accounts connected to the given product/service or selected account only.

Create automation task

Automation logic and conditions

For each custom automation task you can add conditions, under which the task should be scheduled or executed. The logic behind the custom automation task can include client-related conditions or account- related conditions. You can define whether the action (custom automation task) should be executed when one given condition is met (or not met), or define multiple set of conditions that must be met all at once.

Automation rules per client profile

Automation rules can also be set on a per client basis. In client profile you can override package settings and establish individual automation rules for specific client, that concern account provisioning and management and invoice creation. You can also override general billing settings including taxes, invoice merging, invoice delivery method, credit card settings and credit usage.

You can set it the General Settings -> Other -> GDPR, where you can not only choose after what time since the last payment to archive client profile, but also after what time to remove archived profiles. Archived clients can only be viewed by admins with relevant permission level – in admin ACL we’ve added new permission: “View archived clients”.

The new year is just around the corner and it is time to sum up what has happened in 2019! For HostBill, as usual, 2019 was another year of growth, product development and driving innovative changes. But it was also a special year for us – in 2019 we celebrated 10 years in business!

Keep on developing

In 2019 we kept our pace with delivering new releases at least once a week. In fact, this year we’ve published 67 releases so our customers could enjoy a pack of new features, bug fixes and new modules even more often than usual! In total, this year our team of developers fixed impressive number of 1079 bugs, added 478 new features and made 72 other changes

As always, this year we strived to keep on improving HostBill to fulfill all the needs of our customers for a comprehensive billing, automation and client management solution. In 2019 we’ve introduced many new, advanced and innovative features into HostBill. Ability to override billing & automation settings per client brought huge change into client management. Adding logic and conditions for custom automation tasks made HostBill automation even more powerful. Client portal notifications (also in bulk) gave a new and efficient way of communicating with customers. Free products feature allows to upsell and strengthen relationships with current customers. New tax feature – tax per product and line item enables to apply different tax rates for various products and services, which turns out to be especially useful for EU businesses. We also focused on improving product management, adding Account Metrics feature which allows to set limits of resource usage, monitor it and trigger certain actions upon exceeding the limits. Another new feature allowed to import to import all current prices of all available TLDs from domain registrars. Based on that functionality we’ve also added new function to HostBill: importing products from app/servers.

New modules

In 2019 we didn’t forget about expanding our integration portfolio. We launched 20 new provisioning modules giving our customers a chance to introduce new products and services to their clients and find new revenue stream. Our new integrations allow to sell SSL certificates (Realtime Register SSL, Namecheap SSL), Cloud and VPS Hosting (Hetzner Cloud, UpCloud, Virtuozzo Automator), Shared Hosting (ISP Config, Control Web Panel, VestaCP, Cyber Panel), backup (Rushfiles, CometBackup), various licenses (Immunify 360, Resello Microsfot CSP, iNTY Cascade), game and voice srevers (Mumble, Pterodactyl.io), VPN services (AD/LDAP provisioning) and website builders (Slimsite). Apart from new modules, we also kept on improving existing integrations. We added metered billing support to Plesk, DirectAdmin, cPanel and cPanel Manage2 modules.

Among 9 plugins added this year you can find two two-factor authentication plugins (Authy, U2F), notification plugins (SMS 77.io, ClickSend, SendInBlue), Client Active Directory / LDAP and simple but useful password generator widget. We’ve also released major upgrades to Colocation Manager and Support Fields modules.

The list of domain registrars supported by HostBill has also grown, since we’ve added 15 new integrations, with both direct and reseller registrars. We’ve also launched 16 new payment modules, what now makes HostBill support 100 payment gateways with multiple payment methods, to cater to the needs of customers all around the world.

Last but not least, this year we’ve introduced completely new, modern, fully responsive ‘2019′ client panel theme and order page.

What to expect next?

In 2020, we’re going to focus on new, more robust and transparent billing engine to give admin better control of recurring service prices. We’re also planning to release a refreshed client portal and we’re also working on improved domain and DNS management features. Besides, we want to keep on releasing new HostBill versions every week, with new features and integrations our clients are looking for. Filter admin listings

In today’s release we’ve added the option to setup filter operators on numeric and date filters in admin listings. This way you can easier and faster find information you need, for example invoices older than X.

Point to custom mecached server host/port

By default HostBill uses file system to store its cache data. Primary use of cache in HostBill is performance/reduced page load times. If you plan to use HostBill in HA (High-availability) setup, you may want to consider using Memcache(d) as your cache driver in HostBill (which is default for HostBill installed with Enterprise installer). To find out more on how to configure HostBill to use Memcached for caching please refer to HostBill documentation.

DNS

This week we’re also adding new feature to DNS management. Enabling DNSSEC will now automatically update domain registry with DS/KEY records if related module has DNSSEC manage support.

OnApp 6 new client function

OnApp module has an extensive list of client function that can be managed by staff as you have full control over client area features access and appearance. New client function for OnApp Cloud v6 that can be toggled in product allows clients to change VM Hostname. Checkout.fi enables to securely process credit card and bank account payments. With this payment module payments are processed offsite. Checkout.fi also supports recurring charges and easy one-click refunds! The gateway is free to all HostBill users – you can activate it in Plugins section in your admin area!

Private Products

Private Products module is simple in its concept, yet gives you new ways to sell your products. With this module you can sell certain products or services to a selected group of customers. The plugin allows you to hide products from general view and make them available only to specific clients. With today’s update you can now assign products not only to individual clients but also to client groups. This makes it a lot easier and faster to manage your special sales offers to certain customers!

Late fees

Among many billing and invoicing options in HostBill you can add “late fees” – a fee that client needs to pay X days after the due date for given service/product. The fee can be set either as a percentage of the order value or as a fix price, and it can be determined in product automation configuration. New option allows you to decide whether the late fee should be added as a line to original invoice or a separate invoice with the late fee should be issued. This can be specified in General Settings -> Billing section in your admin panel:

free Radius

FreeRADIUS is the most popular and the most widely deployed open source RADIUS server in the world. With HostBill FreeRadius module you can automatically provision user accounts in RADIUS and sell any RADIUS-Authenticated service, giving you countless possibilities. New option introduced this week to this module enables to use forms values as attribute values, allowing much more product flexibility!
