New payment method: PayPal Billing Agreements

The extensive list of payment gateways and payment methods integrated with HostBill gets expanded. We’re happy to annouce new payment module: PayPal Billing Agreements.

How does it work:

Billing Agreement is a PayPal feature that allows to create agreement for recurring PayPal or debit card payment for goods or services. Billing Agreement is different that subscriptions billing as the amount to be charged and time of payment are not fixed but can be specified by the seller.

This HostBill module allows the client to create a billing agreement with the seller when making the first order. Once the agreement is set, HostBill will automatically charge the PayPal account or the credit/debit card for the next recurring invoices. All new purchases made with this gateway will also fall under the current agreement. The module will check once a day which invoices have not yet been paid (following automatic cards capture settings) and will automatically charge active agreements. Client can also choose to pay for any order sooner using the existing agreement simply by clicking “Charge existing PayPal Billing Agreement” button next to the given invoice and the module will automatically collect the payment.

More information about PayPal Billing Agreement module along with the pricing information can be found here.

New admin area and client area features

New HostBill release comes with a set of new features for both: HostBill admin and client areas. New features allow to control final invoice generation, invoice merging and time and date settings.

Control if final invoice is generated after payment or immediately

HostBill allows you to choose invoicing method. You can choose between the default method, where invoice numbers are generated sequentially, regardless of their status or EU invoicing method, where pro-forma unpaid invoices have separate numeration than paid invoices.

In EU the VAT may be applied to the final invoice. HostBill generates final invoices after the pro-forma invoice is paid, enabling you to account in only paid invoices (effectivelly lowering your taxes). Some customers may not want to receive both pro-forma and final invoices to clutter their inboxes. For those customers you can enable the option to generate the final invoice right after the pro-forma is created.

This new HostBill feature for EU invoicing method allows you to choose if you want to generate final invoice number immediately or to wait after the payment is received. If you choose to generate the invoice immediately, the invoice ID will be assigned regardless of the payment status or payment date.

The Final Invoice Delay field also allows you to choose if the final invoice should be generated right after payment is received or if you want to wait X days after payment until final invoice generation.

You can control this options in Settings -> Billing -> Invoicing Method -> EU Invoicing

New features for Status Updates module.

HostBill’s Status Update module allows you to provide quick status updates on your site. The module features status notifications for affected clients using HostBill ticketing system and additional client area page where scheduled events are displayed on a calendar. We’ve now added some new features to the module that will help you work even more effectively.

With Status Updates module you can easily notify your customers about various events such as maintenance work in your HostBill. While creating new Status you can choose Servers/Apps and/or Products related to event and automatically notify customers who own those services. Staff working on the problem can post updates for other staff or customers about the progress. Once the problem is resolved, tickets auto-opened for this event will be closed.

We’ve just made creating new status even quicker – you use ‘Right now’ button for fast date and time entry – HostBill will automatically fill the date and time fields with current date and time.

The statuses can be multilingual – you can create statuses with translations to languages you support. The appropriate text input fields for each language you support will appear on the create new status page.

Each status created can be quickly saved as a template for future use to save you time configuring the status. Simply click on Save as button and provide the name for the template.

PayPal Express Checkout

The new PayPal module has been released to support PayPal Express Checkout. PayPal Express Checkout payment option gives your buyers a simplified checkout experience that keeps them local to your website or mobile app throughout the payment authorization process and lets them use their PayPal balance, bank account, or credit card to pay without sharing or entering any sensitive information on your site.

The Express Checkout flow keeps the buyer on your web page or mobile app throughout the entire checkout flow. On desktops, buyers check out in a secure window that overlays your website. On tablets and smart phones, buyers access the PayPal payment screens in a full-page mobile browser.

Transactional Email modules

HostBill’s new transactional email modules – integrations with leading transactional email providers will increase the delivery rate for your messages!

What are transactional emails?

Transactional emails, unlike ‘bulk’ or ‘marketing’ emails are sent to single individual user, usually in a response to an action taken by that user – and that’s why they’re also called ‘triggered’ emails. Those messages contain important notifications and confirmations, such as account creation emails, account notifications, password resets, order confirmation etc.

Proper outgoing email configuration may be difficult for Linux/Windows admins –  common mistakes may result in emails not being delivered or landing in spam or even getting blacklisted. Getting your transactional emails delivered is crucial to your business – it has direct impact not only on your customer satisfaction, but also on your revenue as it prevents you from loosing your customers. Transactional email modules integrated with HostBill are aimed at improving delivery rate for all of your important messages. The email services providers that we integrated our solution with ensure better deliverability.

Following transactional email modules are available:

Configuring the modules

All transactional email modules are free and available to all HostBill users. Choose the module you want to use in HostBill Extras -> Plugins -> Inactive, click on the Activate button and configure the module according to the instructions.

Once your chosen module is activated you can turn on Transactional emails system wide (in General Settings -> Mail -> Outgoing mail configuration) or for chosen department only (in Ticket Department settings -> Send email).

New release: PHP 7.1 and 7.2 support, Plesk DNS Helper and PowerDNS Slave module

We’re happy to announce that HostBill now supports PHP 7.1 and 7.2. With the new release we’re also launching new Plesk DNS Helper and PowerDNS slave modules.

PHP 7.1 and 7.2 support

HostBill primarily uses PHP in its backend, so it’s important to keep its version up to date for latest security and stability improvements. HostBill currently supports following PHP Versions:

– PHP 5.6
HostBill requires version 5.6 as a minimum to function properly, and we will support it for at least another year.
Please note that PHP will drop security support for version 5.6 on 31 Dec 2018, so you should consider scheduling a PHP upgrade of your install.

– PHP 7.0
We’ve introduced support for PHP 7.0 back in October 2017 and seen dramatic performance improvement on our fast-already framework. Since PHP is currently one of the most popular programming languages, its creators do not stop improving it – so 7.0, simmiliar to 5.6 will see active support only until Dec 2018.

– PHP 7.1 & 7.2
Long-awaited support for PHP 7.1 and 7.2 is here. HostBill was compatible with it for a while now, but we’ve decided to wait until ionCube officially releases its stable 10.2 loaders, which introduces bundled encoding. Few months ago we’ve updated auto-update plugin to check for latest ionCube loaders, as those are required for php 7.1/7.2. Back in 2017 when we’ve been working on PHP 7.0 support and kept support for php 5.4 we’ve used different encoders for different php versions, so before HostBill download you had to select preferred PHP version. Now, with ionCube 10.2 we can bundle files for different php versions into one package – so it will be lot more convenient for HostBill users to switch between different PHP versions.

If you’re currently on PHP 5.6/7.0 and plan to upgrade to higher version, or you experience some problems with HostBill after php version change, please refer to our guide.

Plesk DNS Helper

Our new module: Plesk DNS Helper is an extension shipped with Plesk module to help you connect your Plesk installations with one of the HostBill-supported DNS services: Power DNS, Power DNS Slave Zones, OnApp DNS, cPanel DNS or any other DNS HostBill supports. This module will help you to hook up your PowerDNS to store slave zones, while your Plesk would keep master zone records.

This module is included in HostBill Plesk module.

PowerDNS Slave module

PowerDNS Slave is a free module shipped with our PowerDNS module. It allows you to create slave zones only on your PowerDNS installation, either automated (for example using Plesk DNS Helper) or manually by customers in client portal. The module, unlike regular PowerDNS plugin, uses PowerDNS rest API. For the PowerDNS Slave module to work you need to have PowerDNS ( version 4.0 or higher ), PowerDNS Webserver and PowerDNS API.

You can find out more about the module installation and configuration here.

The post New release: PHP 7.1 and 7.2 support, Plesk DNS Helper and PowerDNS Slave module appeared first on HostBill Blog.

Plesk DNS Helper extension

With the latest HostBill release we’ve introduced new add-on to our Plesk module: Plesk DNS Helper.

Plesk DNS Helper extension is shipped with Plesk module to help you connect your Plesk installations with one of the HostBill-supported DNS services:

  • Power DNS
  • Power DNS Slave Zones
  • OnApp DNS
  • cPanel DNS
  • …or any other DNS HostBill supports

Why may you need this?

Plesk handles DNS really well, but it’s more suited for single-install deployments (as each install comes with its own DNS server). There is a Plesk Multiserver extension, but if you feel it’s not right for you and you plan to deploy multiple Plesk instances you’d most likely want to manage single DNS server (master) rather than multiple ones. Also, if you want to hook up your PowerDNS to store slave zones, while your Plesk would keep master zone records – this is where our Plesk/HostBill DNS helper kicks in.

How does it work?

For this extension to work you need to setup DNS templates to use your actual master nameserver (i.e. Plesk, Power DNS, cPanel DNS) in your Plesk installations. Then install our Plesk extension and point it to your HostBill install. Any time new zone is created / updated / deleted in Plesk, our extension notifies HostBill about it and HostBill then “decides” what to do next. It can:

  • Push this zone to real master nameserver
  • Notify secondary nameserver to create/update slave zone
  • After exporting such zone, HostBill can assign it to the related customer

As a result:

  • Slave DNS (any supported by HostBill) will be notified automatically about new zones in Plesk, or:
  • Plesk DNS will not be used to handle DNS queries, but as a source of data for actual DNS server that handles requests.
With this approach you can benefit from flexible & automated DNS templates built into Plesk on any central DNS server you wish to use with it.

Configuring the module

The DNS Helper is a free add-on to HostBill Plesk module shipped with the module, to be installed in your Plesk Admin Panel. Detailed instructions on how to configure the module can be found in module documentation.

New release: Abuse.io module, fixed upgrade fee

HostBill’s new release comes with the new module: Abuse.io integration and new options for upgrades/downgrades.

Abuse.io module

Abuse.io is a toolkit to receive, process, correlate abuse reports and send notifications with specific information regarding the abuse case(s) on your network.

Abuse.io module for HostBill displays all open customer tickets from Abuse.io in HostBill client area.  Additionally, a button with the number of open tickets appears in the page header. HostBill also enables single sign-on ticket links from HostBill to Abuse.io.

Thanks to this module you can also send notifications about new Abuse.io tickets using email generated automatically by HostBill. The email notifications are sent when a new ticket appears or when the ticket changes the status from resolved to open, using one of the two email templates (AbuseIO:NewTicket or AbuseIO:ChangeStatus), which can be easily modified and customized according to your preferences.

Forms: Fixed upgrade fee

Until now, when the client wanted to upgrade or downgrade a component, HostBill charged pro-rated fee. Sometimes however, the change requires the admin to take a certain action, hence it may be necessary to charge the client additional fee. Now we’ve enabled you to apply additional fixed upgrade/downgrade fee that will appear when the client chooses the related checkbox.

The fee can be set in Forms Advanced Settings.

Plesk Service Plan Sync Tool

We’re happy to introduce new tool for the Plesk module: Plesk Service Plan Sync. This extension, shipped with Plesk module, will help you manage your service plans and addons changes across unlimited Plesk installations with ease.

This extension is a real problem-solver especially for hosting companies that use more than one Plesk installation. Our customers were looking for an automated tool to keep multiple service plans and addons in sync between different installations and HostBill has decided to step in and help solve this problem.

How does it work

This new tool allows you  to create multiple configurations (ie if you have separate Windows/Linux Plesk installations or have different installations for different purposes) that consist of Plesk servers. In each configuration you select source server, that will serve as a source of actual plans & addons configuration. Other Plesk servers within configuration will have plans updated, and missing plans created according to the source plan with a single click of a button.

The Plesk Service Plan Sync tool will track what plans/addons/plan settings are missing or different compared to the source server and show those differences. You can then run a synchronization process and as a result all plans & addons missing will be added to target server and plans & addons with matching names but conflicting configurations will have their configurations updated to match those in source Plesk.

Moreover, if you’re syncing Plesk with minor configuration/version/extensions differences you can setup overrides that will be prevented from overwritting when creating/updating plans & addons on this server, as well as when comparing it with target server.

Sample use cases

Plesk Service Plan Sync Tool can be of use to you if you want to update your plans in bulk, add new plan to all your installations or add new Plesk installation.

Bulk updating plans.

Imagine you sell Plesk hosting products to your customers in HostBill. You connect product in HostBill to all your Plesk installations and make sure that service plan names are shared across all installations. Now you’d like to offer more disk space within this plan. Previously you would need to login to every single one of your Plesk installation, go to service plans, increase disk space and save changes.

With Plesk Service Plan Sync tool it’s a matter of one click.

Adding new plan.

If you’d like to create new product, you create new service plan in Plesk. But if you want to have this plan on all your installations – normally you would need to login to each install you have and re-create plan over and over again.

With Plesk Service Plan Sync you create new service plan on one (main) Plesk install and just hit Sync button.

Adding new Plesk node/installation.

What if you’d like to add new location/installation to your Plesk fleet? To make it useful for your automation you would need to create all service plans you offer on this install – it’s easy to make a mistake.

With Plesk Service Plan Sync you add your new installation to configuration and just hit Sync button.

Configuration

This extension is included for free in HostBill Plesk module. For detailed information on how to configure the tool please refer to the related documentation.

New plugin: Customer Rewards

This week we’re introducing new plugin: Customer Rewards. The plugin allows you to reward customers after collecting a certain number of points, which can be earned for performing events specified by the administrator.

As a business owner you probably understand the importance of retaining existing customers. The customer loyalty is one of the easiest ways to ensure your company stability and continuous growth. Hence at HostBill we’ve created the plugin, which is aimed specifically at building customer loyalty.

Adding points to your customers

With the Customer Rewards plugin you can reward your customers (by adding to their account a certain amount of points) for certain events, such as: registration, adding contacts, ordering certain products, adding security rules, signing up to your affiliate program, having active profile for a certain number of days or adding credits to their account.

In the “Points” tab you can specify how many points the client would get for performing given action and whether the event will be performed only once or multiple times for one client. You can also decide if you want to send the customer notifications and what kind of notifications (in the client area or via email).

In the event details you can access the event log, with the information about all the client who performed this action.

Rewards

Once your customer collects a specific amount of points you can reward them with one of the following;

  1. Credit – specified credit amount added to the customer account
  2. Promotion to a client group – changing the customer group to the selected one (for example Priority Support etc)
  3. Coupon code – assigning the specific (pre-defined) promotional code to the client

In the rewards tab you can define whether the customer can receive the prize only once or multiple times and whether the points should be reset after the client received the reward. You can also set email or client area notifications. Details of the reward include logs where you can find a list of all customers who received the reward.
